2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV Revealed

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV offers 664 horses and 10k pounds of towing

On Wednesday, American automaker Chevrolet revealed their Chevrolet Silverado EV, a direct competitor to the all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning. The all-electric pickup truck is set to go on sale in 2023.

The wait for the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV seems to be worth it as other automakers such as Ford, GMC, Rivian, and Tesla have already set the bar on range, towing, and power. To match its competitors, Chevy’s new electric pickup truck offers up to 400 miles in range, with 664 horsepower and up to 10,000 pounds in towing.

With two trim levels available, Chevrolet has listed $105,000 for the fully loaded Silverado RST and $39,900 for the base and fleet-focused Silverado WT. These do not include the destination price, which is $1,695 on the current non-electric Silverado. According to Chevy, these are two prices of the Silverado EV line with future trim levels falling in between.

Both variants of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV will be powered by a 24-module Ultium power pack that consists of front and rear-drive motors, allowing four-wheel drive and steering. On the RST, the motors combine to provide up to 664 horses and 780 ft lbs of torque while the WT delivers 510 horses and 615 ft lbs of torque. The RST will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds. Also in comparison, the RST is able to tow up to 10,000 pounds and carry a 1,300 pound payload while the WT tows up to 8,000 with a 1,200 pound payload.

Not too much has changed in terms of looks, as the all-electric pickup truck has many cosmetic similarities to the original Chevy Silverado. The Silverado EV appears to be an aerodynamic version of the Crew Cab model at first glance, and removes the unnecessary massive grille simply because air cooling isn’t required. The unibody styling and Multi-Flex tailgate resembles the discontinued Avalanche. The tailgate also extends the cargo bed by 5 feet to a total of 11 feet by lowering the tailgate and rear cab wall.

The cabin of the RST features an 11-inch instrument gauge, a multi-color driver HUD (heads-up display) and a 17-inch touch screen display to access the General Motors hands-free “Super Cruise” driver assistance technology. The Super Cruise allows the driver to access and navigate across 200,000 miles of compatible roads around the United States and Canada. The WT trim offers an 8-inch instrument gauge and a 11-inch display.

The all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning will be the first to hit the market when it arrives later this year in 2022, but the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV trails right behind Ford’s tail and becomes available for purchase next year starting in Q2 2023 for the WT and Fall 2023 for the RST. Reservations are available now on the Chevrolet website.
