Ather Energy’s third generation 450X Gen 3 electric scooter gets a larger, improved battery
Bengaluru-based Ather Energy have updated their 450X Gen 3 electric scooter to a 3.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack with a capacity of 74 Ah. Compared to the Gen 2’s 2.9 kWh battery, this is definitely a welcomed upgrade.
Though the specs get a boost, Ather Energy decided to make very light changes as far as looks go. The 450X Gen 3 electric scooter is a still-trendy e-scooter thanks to its sleek front design and body panels. The new 450X even has the exact same design and color choices as the previous model.
The external design has undergone two revisions. One is the updated set of rear view mirrors, which have a stronger foundation that isn’t swivelable, better cast metal finishing, and improved integration. The mirror is claimed to offer double the visibility for the rider. The 7-inch touchscreen display on the handlebar remains the same as the previous model, except the RAM has been upgraded to 2GB for better performance.
In addition to the 3.7 kWh battery, the 450X Gen 3 electric scooter gets a unique set of tires that have been developed by both MRF and Ather. They are expected to deliver 22% greater traction on wet roads and even more on dry pavement thanks to a new compound and different tread profile. The tires also enable shorter stopping distances on tarmac.
The overall weight of the 450X Gen 3 has marginally increased to 111.6 kg—only a minor 5 kg jump. Thus, the throttle response feels almost the same as Gen 2’s. That said, the ARAI-certified riding range has increased to 146 km, and Ather claims that the True Range is 105 km per charge. In Ride and Warp modes, the range is around 85 km and 70 km, respectively. The electric scooter can accelerate from 0-40 kmph in 3.3 seconds and can reach a max speed of 80 kmph.
Starting today, Ather will release its 450X Gen 3 to Indian dealers at a suggested retail price of ₹155,657 ($1,950 USD).
