Pre-orders For The BMW i7 xDrive60 Luxury Sedan Start Today

The All-Electric BMW i7 xDrive60 luxury sedan will have a starting price of $119,300

Revealed today, the BMW i7 xDrive60 luxury sedan is the German marque’s seventh generation model and it has gone all-in on modern technologies. The i7 is the first electric 7-series, with two electric motors, 536 horsepower, and a driving range of roughly 300 miles per charge. It’s even available for pre-order right now, with deliveries set to begin later this year.

This full-size EV’s electric powertrain, known as the xDrive60, has a front motor that produces 255 horsepower and 269 ft lbs of torque and a rear motor that produces 308 horsepower and 280 foot pounds of torque. With that combined, there is 536 horsepower and 549 foot pounds of torque in total. The i7 will zip from zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds with an electronically regulated peak speed of 149 mph.

The 101.7-kwH battery pack in the all-electric BMW i7 xDrive60 luxury sedan can be charged using a DC fast charging station at a rate of up to 195 kilowatts, and BMW states that a 10-minute charge will provide about 80 miles of driving range. For the first three years of ownership, customers who purchase the i7 xDrive60 will receive complimentary charging sessions at Electrify America stations.

BMW has also said that the i7’s two motors would not be powered by rare earth elements. According to the marque, the motors work on the basis of a “current-energized synchronous machine,” which permits “the perfectly measured supply of electrical energy” to cause “the excitation of the rotor”.

By now we’re pretty accustomed to BMW’s newly designed kidney shaped grille and we get a similar approach with the i7 xDrive60 luxury sedan. The grille of the front fascia is surrounded by a narrow strip of “special crystal glass” LED, which serves to highlight it and, in some ways, calls attention to it. There’s also the inclusion of split headlamps and an illuminated badge, giving it a lavish touch.

With an attractive cabin constructed of fine materials while providing a substantial amount of legroom, the all-electric BMW i7 xDrive60 looks incredibly lovely inside. The digital dashboard merges a 12.3-inch display and a 14.9-inch multimedia touchscreen display on a floating glass panel, working as both a gauge cluster and BMW’s newest infotainment center, iDrive8. In addition, ambient lighting, air vent touch controls, and massage seats are all packaged in.

Passengers in the rear arguably get a better experience with the optional Executive Lounge package which adds power-adjustable and reclining rear seats. Another standout feature is the optional Theater Screen entertainment system. Passengers may utilize a gigantic 8K 31.3-inch touchscreen display deployed from the i7’s roof to surf the web or watch streaming platforms such as Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime Video using the car’s cellular internet connection.

Starting at $119,300, the all-electric BMW i7 xDrive60 luxury sedan will launch Fall 2022. Those interested can reserve one today at the BMW website with a $1,500 pre-order deposit.
