Candela P-12 Electric Foiling Yachts Take On The Red Sea In 2025

NEOM orders a number of Candela P-12 electric foiling yachts

Eight Candela P-12 electric foiling yachts have been ordered by NEOM, a new tourism destination being built off the coast of Saudi Arabia. This will help commuters get around the area, with faster and a larger amount of trips.

“Unlike legacy systems with large, slow, and energy-inefficient conventional ferries, the Candela P-12 is a smaller and faster unit, allowing much more frequent departures and quicker journeys for passengers,” said Candela founder and CEO Gustav Hasselskog. “All daily necessities and services will be just a short boat commute away.”

The Candela P-12 electric foiling yacht was first announced in June 2022 and launched in November 2023. With computer-guided hydrofoils that are updated 100 times per second for stability and smoothness, the 39-foot, zero-emission vessel “flies” above the water. According to Candela, the P-12 emits 97.5 percent less CO2 throughout its lifetime than a regular diesel-powered vessel of the same size and uses 80 percent less energy than conventional shuttle ships.

The P-12 can travel 40 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 25 knots and has a maximum speed of 30 knots thanks to its two electric C-POD motors from Candela and its four 63 kWh batteries. The yacht is ideal for coastal sailing and produces very little wake. Thirty passengers will be able to travel around Saudi Arabia’s northwest coast on the Red Sea fleet.

“We’re extremely proud to provide a vessel system designed with both passengers and the environment in mind,” added Hasselskog.” Short waiting times, quick connections, and a very enjoyable experience without taxing the environment with wakes, emissions, and noise will revolutionize how we travel on water.”

This autumn, the Candela P-12 electric foiling yacht will make its debut on Stockholm’s public transportation network. The delivery of the NEOM fleet is scheduled for 2025 and early 2026.
