The Kinetik Model 27 electric go-kart fully utilizes a 3D-printed body
Developed by Kinetik Automotive, a boutique electric vehicle manufacturer, the Kinetik Model 27 electric go-kart is pure bliss. Once you get your hands on this thing, you’ll feel like a kid in a candy store, or an adult at an indoor go-kart venue.
Completely built upon a 3D printed body, the Kinetik Model 27 electric go-kart was the birth of many electric race car projects envisioned by the Bulgaria-based company. Known for their 07Prototype, Kinetik Automotive converted a Lotus 7 to run electric while using an open sourced chassis and designed everything in-house including its powertrain, exterior, interior, software, and infotainment system.
Then, Kinetik wanted to produce something a bit more accessible in comparison to their racetrack EVs. With the intention for their design to last generations, Kinetik purposefully borrowed some of their design elements from the 07Prototype and applied them to the Model 27.
“Thus we started discussing the idea of doing our take on the purest incarnation of a sports vehicle – the go-kart,” said Kinetik. “Naturally, we created an entirely 3D printed body and fit it with an electric motor for rapid acceleration and instant response.”
A majority of go-karts are usually equipped with weak engines and a thin power band, resulting in less fun factor. On the flip side, the Model 27 electric go-kart produces 20 kW and 90 Nm of torque, allowing it to hit a max speed of 60mph (100kph), or 53 mph in 3.9 seconds.
At full throttle, the 3.2 kWh battery pack has a range rating of 6.8 miles (11 km), but you can get even further if you’re lighter on the foot. However, even at maximum power, such distance is usually plenty for a normal session of go-karting. In addition, Kinetik Automotive claims a 15 kW charger can provide fast charging in only 10 minutes.
At an MSRP of $14,000, the Kinetik Model 27 electric go-kart is surely on the more expensive end of hobbies, but we believe it’s well worth it. Reservations are still available on the Kinetik website.
