The fifth generation Rad Power Bikes RadExpand 5 folding e-bike has been introduced
Rad Power Bikes has just unveiled their RadExpand 5 folding e-bike. The Seattle-based electric bike company now offers a lighter, fatter-tired, and less expensive option to their line of folding e-bikes which include the RadMini Step-Thru Fat Bike Version 2 and the RadMini Fat Bike Version 4.
At a price of $1,299, the RadExpand 5 folding e-bike comes in both black and white and with the company’s highest power motor of 750W and the highest capacity battery at 626Wh. The RadExpand 5 is Rad Power Bikes’s second most-affordable option under the $1,199 Rad Mission.
With a 7-speed transmission, the Rad Power Bikes RadExpand 5 will perform similarly to the rest of the company’s series of Class 2 e-bikes. The RadExpand 5’s hand throttle and sensor-based pedal assist will allow it to reach a top speed of 20 mph (32 km/h). Its range is estimated at 25-45 miles (40-72km), depending on terrain and speed.
Upgraded features include the step-through frame of the 2nd-gen RadMini Step-Thru Fat Bike Version 2, which suits riders of all heights though taller riders will need to purchase a higher seatpost. Now adjustable are the high-rise handlebars that provide improved ergonomics and ride pleasure. Both the new LED headlight and tail light are photosensitive, so they’ll turn on automatically when you’re out during the evening.
According to Rad Power Bikes, they have claimed that their new 4-inch tires are able to “take you from city commutes to trail riding adventures in no time.” There’s also a high-quality rear rack that holds a carrying capacity of 55 pounds (25kg) and now comes standard on the RadExpand 5 folding e-bike.
