The Segway S-Pod is a design inspiration out of a movie

If you’ve seen Wall-E or Paul Blart: Mall Cop, then you’d immediately recognize two things from the Segway S-Pod picture above; 1. the hoverchair look-alike and 2. the infamous Segway brand, the two-wheel personal transporter that Paul, the mall cop rides in the movie Paul Blart: Mall Cop respectively.

That’s right folks, Segway did away again with their way of innovation and created what looks to be a futuristic electric wheel chair that can hit up to 24 mph. Dubbed the S-Pod, the Segway calls its latest personal transport vehicle a “first-class smart transporting pod.” The Segway S-Pod is basically an egg-shaped chair on wheels that Segway envisions will become the perfect way to get around closed campuses like airports, theme parks and … of course, malls.

The Segway S-Pod is powered by gyroscopic, self-balancing technology to ensure that it  never tips over and riders can control their movement with a little joystick located on the right side of the seat whereas the original Segway was steered via gestures like leaning forward or to the side. In addition to its two main wheels, the chair will be equipped with three smaller wheels underneath that will help with maneuverability.

While the Segway S-Pod looks almost identical to the chairs featured in WALL-E known as the hoverchair, however, according to Segway, the design inspiration for the electric transport vehicle actually came from another movie and was inspired by the Gyrosphere from Jurassic World. This little silver-screen-to-life invention will for sure change how some of us move around in the day-to-day lives; we’re looking forward to trying it out ourselves!
