Skyfly Axe eVTOL Is Compact And Affordable

Pre-orders are now available for the two-person Skyfly Axe eVTOL

British eVTOL manufacturer Skyfly Technologies have opened their pre-orders for the Skyfly Axe eVTOL. This intriguing aircraft has amazing specs and a clean, streamlined design that incorporates only four props.

The Skyfly Axe eVTOL is built with two fixed wings, measuring at 16.4 feet across, that lessens the overall weight of the aircraft. Each wing holds a five-foot propeller at its ends with 70 kW motors. For takeoff and landing, the aircraft only needs a 164 ft (50 m) long runway with an climbing rate of 2,300 feet (701 meters) per minute.

Accommodating two passengers, the Axe has a maximum payload capacity of 379 lbs (172 kg). Without including the batteries, its empty weight is 944 lbs (428 kg). The 48 kWh dual battery pack has a 200-mile range (321 km) and powers the electric motors which allow the eVTOL to hit a cruising speed of 100 mph.

Since it can fly like a fixed wing, anyone can pilot the Axe by using a fixed-wing pilot’s license. In fact, SkyFly is marketing this as a teaching tool for pilots looking to transition into the air taxi industry. In the UK, you can register the Axe as a kit-built, a very light aircraft, or an experimental aircraft.

On its website, the London-based startup is now accepting reservations for the Skyfly Axe eVTOL. Customers are scheduled to receive their Axes by the summer of 2024. Pricing starts at about $173,000 with several add-on available such as the range extender generator for $58,000, an additional battery pack for $29,000, and a ballistic parachute for $23,000.
