Are you ready for the Alef Model A Hybrid VTOL?

The world’s first flying car, also known as the Alef Model A Hybrid VTOL, has been officially approved by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This allows for the VTOL aircraft to soar the skies under experimental status. Alef has confirmed that this is the very first time this type of vehicle received a government certification.

“We’re excited to receive this certification from the FAA,” said Alef CEO Jim Dukhovny. “It allows us to move closer to bringing people an environmentally friendly and faster commute, saving individuals and companies hours each week.”

The wingless flying Alef Model A Hybrid VTOL’s 200 mile driving range and 110 mile flight range are stated by Alef themselves. As of right now, the vehicle is still in the prototype stage, and although Alef claims to have been test driving and test flying full size prototypes since 2019, we still await additional footage since its reveal last year in October 2022.

It’s also important to note that the FAA approval restricts the aircraft’s use, including development, research, and demonstration. It will be at least a few years before insiders can get behind the wheel of the vehicle for a test drive. Before the company can fly or operate the Model A, it must first wait for the FAA to certify eVTOLs for commercial use.

Alef has also confirmed that they’ve received “strong pre-orders” from companies and individuals for the Alef Model A Hybrid VTOL, tallying over 400 reservations. For a $150 deposit, customers can access the “regular” queue, or the “priority” queue for $1,500. The vehicle itself? Well that’s priced at a whopping $300,000. Alef expects deliveries to occur in Q4 of 2025.
