Haven’t we already seen the Nissan Hyper Tourer EV in The Jetsons?
Japanese automaker Nissan has revealed their luxury minivan prototype, the Nissan Hyper Tourer EV, at the recent Japan Mobility Show. Needless to say, if anyone is caught driving the Hyper Tourer around the neighborhood, they will immediately be the coolest family on the block.
Thanks to Nissan’s EV Technology Vision, a method of packaging that lowers the minivan’s center of gravity by combining parts and solid-state batteries, the Hyper Tourer concept offers a flat floor and a roomy cabin. The design would also leave plenty of room for all the amenities of a contemporary camper van.
The electric Nissan Hyper Tourer EV is pitched by the company as a car that “re-envisions the group road trip by combining the comfort of a luxurious living room with the convenience of a passenger van, all contained in a stylish and futuristic package.”
The body panels contrast between “sharp character lines” and smooth body panels, which aims to evoke the essence of traditional Japanese beauty. Ultra-slim headlights are also incorporated into the white accent line that separates the Hyper Tourer’s glass from the bodywork throughout its whole exterior, and the wide front panel and wheels use “kumiko” patterning, a traditional Japanese design typically composed of interconnecting wooden bars.
Perhaps even more futuristic is the EV’s opulent interior. The design of the cabin, which took inspiration from the Japanese notion of “omotenashi”, features four leather chairs that can recline fully. According to the company, the front pair each rotate 360 degrees while the car is driven autonomously. Also featured is a flat LED panel constructed within the floor that displays images of a sky and riverbed. Additionally, an AI system analyzes the biometric indicators of the users and modifies the lighting and music to create a more tranquil atmosphere.
The Nissan Hyper Tourer EV has e-4ORCE all-wheel drive in addition to self-driving capabilities to provide the smoothest ride possible. The EV also has a large capacity battery that can power your house or workplace when needed thanks to V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) technology.
