Yes, Hans Zimmer will also be working on the BMW Icon yacht
In collaboration with boat maker Tyde, the BMW Icon yacht made its debut at the 76th Cannes Film Festival. The 43-foot-long Icon is advertised as “the first battery-powered marine craft of its kind”, and can sail up to 30 knots without emitting any pollutants.
The emissions-free BMW Icon yacht is equipped with two 100kW electric motors and six BMW i3 batteries. It can sail approximately 50 nautical miles without producing any pollutants. It also features a similar setup to a hydrofoil and can reach up to 30 knots.
Created by the German luxury marque’s Designworks studio, the Icon has a flat hull and a thin, origami-style superstructure. In order to further the futuristic look, LEDs are installed throughout the bow and stern, and large glass panels will give mariners unobstructed views.
The Icon is also equipped with foils to enable smooth water cruising with a minimum amount of drag. According to BMW, the wings use up to 80 percent less energy than a standard planing boat.
The beam is almost 15 feet long and features a large lounge entrance and a huge aft social room. Designer furnishings and a multicolored carpet are displayed in the lounge. Additionally, the yacht has a tablet-based infotainment system and 360-degree rotating seating.
The central command center also features a 32-inch, 6K touchscreen display that mimics the BMW iDrive interface. Voice commands can be used to find out information such as the weather or mileage.
Last but not least, two-time Academy Award-winner Hans Zimmer will develop all the tones and soundscapes to outfit the Dolby Atmos system within the BMW Icon yacht.
