Automobili Estrema Fulminea Electric Hypercar Aims To Set Nürburgring Record

A Kickstarter has launched for the Automobili Estrema Fulminea electric hypercar

In an attempt to set a new Nürburgring record, a Kickstarter funding campaign has begun for the Automobili Estrema Fulminea electric hypercar. Expected to hit 200 mph in under 10 seconds, the Fulminea will be living up to its Italian moniker, which translates to “lightning fast”.

The Automobili Estrema Fulminea electric hypercar reportedly utilizes a solid-state battery technology along with ultra-capacitors, as well as four separate electric motors at each wheel with a combined 1.5 megawatts of power. According to the Italian automaker, the Fulminea will have 2,012 horsepower and a max speed of 217 mph, allowing it to strike to 62 mph in 2 seconds and 200 mph in less than 10 seconds.

The Fulminea’s carbon fiber aerodynamic body with a rear wing and shark fin features multiple air intakes for airflow and heat management. At 3,300 pounds, the Italian hypercar should maintain its ground while on path to set a Nürburgring record thanks to all-wheel drive and torque vectoring. It’ll also become the first car to use a ground-breaking 100 kWh hybrid battery pack made by Avesta Battery Energy Engineering (ABEE), which will give it a 325-mile range.

An advanced solid-state electrolyte houses the li-ion chemistry of the ABEE. This explains why its energy density is so high, with almost twice as much as that of existing li-ion batteries. Estrema claims the battery weighs only 300 kilograms (~661 pounds), which is half the weight of a modern day 100-kWh battery.

In September 2023, Estrema plans to set a new lap Nürburgring record for an electric sports vehicle at the renowned German racetrack. They’re requesting contributions ranging from $53 (€49) to $1,073 (€999) to assist costs. In exchange, those donating will receive access to a nine-part documentary that chronicles the development of the vehicle up to the Nordschleife race. Pledgers who donate $1,000 will also get to spend a day with the Estrema team at a nearby track in North Italy.

The first production model of the Automobili Estrema Fulminea electric hypercar will be unveiled in June 2023, with deliveries set for later this year. Estrema claims they’ll produce 60 vehicles over the course of three years, with each costing $2.38 million.
