The Moots Express electric bike is the company’s first e-bike
Superior craftsmanship can be found in the hand-built Moots Express electric bike that was just revealed by the company in its first foray into the e-bike market. At first glance, it may not even look electrified!
As the company states, “In the world of e-bikes, there was a clear path forward for Moots, applying decades of design and build experience into a purpose-built model designed to go the distance. The Express brings Moot’s electric-powered vision to reality.”
This Moots Express electric bike is one of the few on the market with a detachable battery that avoids making an incredibly large downtube, which is typically the first telltale sign of an e-bike. The Express’s 504Wh detachable Shimano battery is rated for a maximum range of 100 miles, however the manufacturer notes that many factors such as “assist level use, rider weight, elevation gain, wind speeds, and tire pressure” may affect the actual range.
Also equipped is a Shimano EP801 mid-drive motor which produces 60 Nm of torque. An unexpectedly steep climb may result in additional power without the rider having to reach for the aid-level selector thanks to the auto-shifting feature, which automatically adjusts the assist level based on rider input.
Naturally, manual control can be used instead of the auto-shifting feature for people who want full control. Similar to the right-side shifter that drives the rear derailleur, the handlebar shifter on the left subtly regulates the motor power assist settings.
Designed for riders who desire both the genuine gravel experience and increased speed and range, the Express can carry enough fuel with you thanks to the two bottle cages and accessory cage attachments on the fork legs. Rainy days won’t be a problem thanks to hidden fender mounts.
Available in small, medium, large, and extra large sizes, the Moots Express electric bike will start at $9,999.
